TITLE:
Does the title fit well with the subject and lyrics in the song? |
The title fits very well with the song. The words “turn you out” are repeated in the hook and are evident and work well. |
MELODY: |
Really sweet verse. The melody is repetitive and lures you in. The melody rises in the pre-chorus and helps lift the song and support the chorus. Chorus melody is very memorable. The key change really strengthens the message. |
STORY:
Feedback on the songwriter’s ability to tell the story: |
I really enjoyed the story line. I didn’t have lyrics to follow, but the vocalist was clear. In my listening, the vocalist is telling an endearing story of not “turning (the person’s) heart away”, and so it’s uplifting, comforting and endearing. The music supports the story line very effectively. |
LYRICS:
How are the rhyming patterns? |
It’s very effective. All areas, verse, pre and chorus use strong rhyming patterns which help me remember the lyrics. |
Comments on Lyric Sheet submitted |
None submitted |
Does the lyric tell the story? |
Yes, it’s very clear and simply written – not too wordy. Frank has chosen his words carefully to tell the story and it’s done very effectively. |
Chorus notes |
Title hook is really strong. It’s repetitive, in a good way, and I have been humming it for an hour after it’s that clear, simple and effective. |
SONG STRUCTURE: |
Verse, pre-chorus, chorus, verse, pre-chorus, chorus. Bridge (girls repeating chorus line), pre-chorus, final chorus with key change and adlib. A typical song structure, Gioia has truly stuck to what “works” and it works for him. I really like this song |
Production: |
Very cruisy and laid back. I was informed that this song was submitted as a ballad, and that there was a previous review that said it was a dance song. I feel that the song itself is a mid-tempo ballad, but the production with the drums brings it up a notch to be more R&B electronica. So I see why it could be interpreted as a ballad. I think the song would work both ways. It’s a laid back, groove oriented production and it’s very nicely done. Nothing over the top. Understated and pleasing. It has a retro British Depeche Mode sound, but that’s my personal opinion and by the way, I love Depeche Mode. I really enjoyed the female backing vocals. |
Marketability: |
This song would work great in a film that is based on compassion, “loving you always”, global peace, spirituality and humans caring for each other. I could even see it on a dog commercial, or a hunger in Africa commercial. Maybe a documentary about animals, foster kids, or the plight of a third world nation? All ideas… Great marketability for this song. I think it would play on adult contemporary radio in niche markets. I do hope it is released or will be release, with some community/charity attached to it, as it’s so fitting for that. |
FINAL COMMENTS/REVIEW: |
Congratulations Gioia, for a very sweet, positive, motivating and encouraging song. Turn U Out takes you on an emotionally endearing, and groove oriented journey of compassion and caring. Listening to this song you know that we aren’t “left behind” in the world when we know someone cares for us. |
